Stortorget is Malmö's main square, constructed in 1536 by mayor Jörgen Kock, by knocking down a big chunk of the medieval town. Kock built the impressive Rådhuset, or city hall, which was first finished in 1546, but has been modified since. The last time anyone had a go at altering it was in the late 1860s. Kock also built himself a house on the opposite side of the square.
