Mr Monkey carried on along down Bridge Street, keeping on the upper level of the Rows. Looking at the buildings opposite him, Mr Monkey realised that not all the buildings were original. In fact, most of them aren't. Over several centuries, the people of Chester replaced the original buildings, enclosing the walkways so that by the 18th century there were no real rows. Then they realised that no other city had anything like them and did their best to recreate them.
