Mr Monkey in Chester, May 27th

"It's seen better days, this shrine"

Mr Monkey nipped through the gate and across the Old Dee Bridge. In the middle of Edgar's Field he came to the remains of a shrine to Minerva, which is the only rock shrine left in place in the country. Looking at it, Mr Monkey recalled the artists impression of what it might have looked like before being left outdoors for a couple of thousand years or so, and remembered that, as well as being a goddess of soldiers and wisdom, Minerva also had overly close dealings with owls.

You can read a bit about the shrine at the Chester Tourist website.
