Mr Monkey visits Knaresborough Castle, 19th July, 2007

"He must have been a very determined chap"

In the section on local personalities, Mr Monkey found out about Blind Jack Metcalf who, in a rather involved life, was captured by Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobites, played the fiddle for the Duke of Cumberland and was most famous for constructing about 180 miles of road. Mr Monkey was impressed by the 18th century hand-pumped fire engine, even though he's not usually in favour of water being squirted.

You can read about Blind Jack at the Knaresborough Online website.
