Mr Monkey visits the Florence Nightingale Museum, January 7th

"I wonder if it would really double as a concertina"

Mr Monkey had been a little puzzled by the lantern that Miss Nightingale was holding in the Scutari tableau, because it didn't look like the lantern she usually has in the pictures. In the next cabinet he found one of five lamps surviving from those used in the Crimean hospitals. It's made of linen and brass and held one candle, and, as Mr Monkey saw, didn't look attractive enough for British artists.
