Between lock 9 and lock 10 Mr Monkey had a look at the warehouse built by Samuel Oldknow, who was the chief promoter and chairman of the Peak Forest Canal Company. It used to be used for housing Mr Oldknow's wares, which could be winched in through the side of the building, or sailed in through the door at the end of the building. Now it's home to a number of businesses including an architects, an insurance brokers and a photocopier firm.
You can read about Samuel Oldknow at the Marple website and see a mezzotint of him at the National Portrait Gallery website.
