Mr Monkey scampered along to the next caponier, where he found a set of display panels giving a simple history of fortifications from Biblical times up to the 19th century. The last panel was a plan of Fort Napoleon itself, showing the central tower with its courtyard, the caponiers, the outer wall, and the alterations Napoleon had his engineers make to the dunes. The plan seemed to show cannon mounted in the fort which slightly perplexed Mr Monkey, as he never found any opening in the walls wide enough to stick a cannon through.
