Mr Monkey went down another set of stairs to the lower gun deck, which was dark because the gunports were all shut. This was where thirty 32 pounder guns lived along with most of the crew. Mr Monkey looked at the guns, and saw that they had lead aprons tied over the vents. The guns were normally kept loaded, and and the lead apron kept the firing charge dry and prevented the gun being fired accidentally. Between the guns Mr Monkey looked at the hammocks the crew slept in, and at the removable tables they ate at.
