Mr Monkey in Portsmouth, 30th August

"It's a rather partial church"

Trotting along Penny street Mr Monkey arrived at the Royal Garrison Church. This was founded in 1212 by Peter de Rupibus, bishop of Winchester, and later became the first Royal Garrison Church in the world. A lot of the church is missing because it was hit by an incendary bomb in 1941 and the roof has been missing so long that trying to put it back now will damage the stonework. The chancel survived with only a little charring and Mr Monkey went in to see some interesting post-war stained glass.

You can read about the church at the iTraveluk website.
