Still in the Loyalty section, Mr Monkey admired the wooden board belonging to the Stockport branch of the Friendly United Mechanics, whose motto "United to relieve not combined to injure" was supposed to reassure their employers. Mr Monkey studied his first 'traditional' union banner, from the National Union of Railwaymen, created in 1913 by the amalgamation of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the United Pointsmen and Signalmen's Society and the General Railway Workers Union.
