Mr Monkey takes the Scarborough Flyer to York, 10th September

"It's certainly very striking"

The main exhibit of the Streamlined exhibition is a locomotive, the LMS Princess Coronation class 6229 Duchess of Hamilton. She's recently had her rather bulbous streamlining (removed for operational efficiency in 1947) restored and been painted with her 1938 maroon and gold livery. Mr Monkey examined the locomotive, laughed at the little wings on the headlamp, and wondered how anyone would get at the working parts of the locomotive*. He decided that when it comes to streamlining on 1930s locomotives, he prefered the Mallard and the rest of LNER's A4 Pacifics.

* He found out later that the curved front splits into two, opens like a cupboard and gets in everyone's way.
