Downstairs, Mr Monkey found that the cellar floors were being excavated by archaeologists. He also found a pair of strongrooms. These were built in 1838 to store government and bank money during the 1837 Rebellion, when there was a fear that William Lyon McKenzie was going to capture Toronto.

You can read about the Upper Canada Rebellion at the Brainy Encyclopedia website.
