Mr Monkey visits Fort York

"Let's examine a blockhouse"

Mr Monkey decided to investigate the blockhouses, both built in 1813. These could house up to 160 people, and had loopholes in the walls to fire from, and little trapdoors in the upper floor so that people upstairs could fire at anyone too near the walls. Blockhouse Number 2, in the middle of the fort has an exhibition about the history of the fort, while Number 1 is built into the wall of the fort and has been set up to look much as it did in 1813 (apart from extra fire extingiushers, of course).
