Mr Monkey in Göteborg, August 10th

"They're good monuments, you know"

Mr Monkey looking at the Delaware Monument Mr Monkey looking at the sailor's monument

Mr Monkey walked along the quay to the Stenpiren, the pier from which many Scandinavians took ship to America. In 1638, Swedes and Finns sailed from Gothenburg and invented Delaware. Sometime later, a monument was put up in Gothenburg to honour them. Mr Monkey examined the monument then went over to look at the other monument on the pier, which is to sailors from Gothenburg killed in the Second World War.

You can read about Swedish settlers in the Delaware Valley at the Swedish Colonial Society website.
