Mr Monkey scurried up Västra Hamngatan until he got to the Domkyrkan, Gothenburg's cathedral. The first church on this spot was dedicated in 1633, but fire destroyed the cathedral in 1721 and in 1802; today's cathedral was finished in 1827, and it's been restored five times to re-create its original appearance. Mr Monkey thought it was a beautiful and very peaceful building. He was particularly interested by the altar, which has an empty cross draped with a shroud, rather than a conventional crucifix.
