Mr Monkey clambered down a flight of steps until he was behind the window in the centre of the east front, which has stained glass dating to the first years of the 15th century. Part of the restoration project involves restoring the tracery holding the window together, and replacing the later secondary glazing with something that doesn't have diamond shaped leading. Then Mr Monkey was escorted back to the lift, and his visit was over.
You can read a bit about the glass of the east front at the Icons of England website.
