Mr Monkey scurried along the communication trench, taking care to notice the telephone line linking the guns to observation posts, until he came to a gun emplacement. There were four of these, originally connected to the main ammunition stores by a narrow guage railway. Each gun emplacement stored up to 200 shells and 200 cartridges in the stores behind the grey steel doors either side of the stairs up to the gun.
